Youth Performers Headline Fourth Annual AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Brass and Jazz in the Park

(DALLAS) – The AT&T Performing Arts Center invites the community to the fourth annual Brass and Jazz in the Park. This free community event takes place on Saturday, November 9 from 1-6 p.m. at Mattie Nash-Myrtle Davis Park, 3710 N Hampton Rd. The theme for this year’s event is “And the Youth Shall Lead: celebrating young performers and the future of jazz music”.

This year’s event features student performances from the Barak Obama Male Leadership Academy Big Band and Jazz Ensemble, St. Phillip’s School and Community Center Band, Jesús Moroles Expressive Arts Vanguard Dancers, SMU’s Dance Jazz Track and the Brooker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts Jazz Ensemble and Dancers.

Other musical performers include Thaddeus Ford and the Generations Now Jazz Ensemble, Adarian Roberts & The Future Is Now Band, and a traditional Second Line with Michelle N. Gibson, Grand Marshal of the New Orleans Original Buckshop and the Next Generation Brass Band, straight from New Orleans.

“This event recognizes and uplifts the vibrant voices of our youth that honor the roots of Jazz” said Gibson, who curates the Brass and Jazz in the Park lineup. “We remember the foundations of this culture that have been planted, making its way from New Orleans to Dallas and beyond, and passing the torch down to the next generation of young artists. The time is now to make space for their innovation, creativity, and proclamation through music, dance, art, and history, and I am proud of their artistic endeavors.”

And The Youth Shall Lead Brass & Jazz in the Park is presented by the Center’s ArtsBridge – Powered by Toyota community arts program, and is produced in partnership with the New Orleans Original BuckShop.
