Let the Trumpets Sound… A New Orleans Tribute to Dallas Jazz Legend Roy Hargrove

A FREE community event featuring live Jazz, Jazz Dance, New Orleans Brass, Black Mardi Gras Indians, Louisiana cuisine, family art activities and a New Orleans Second Line

Brass and Jazz in the Park returns to West Dallas for a sixth year to once again celebrate the music, culture and traditions connecting Dallas and New Orleans.

This year’s festival honors Roy Hargrove, the Dallas-raised, two-time Grammy-winning trumpeter and Booker T. Washington HSPVA graduate who became one of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation.

Four outstanding jazz bands will celebrate Hargrove’s legacy with trumpet-forward performances featuring their own music alongside selections from Hargrove’s legendary body of work.

The afternoon will culminate in true New Orleans fashion with a traditional Second Line led by Grand Marshal Michelle N. Gibson and the Big Easy Brass Band.

This year’s procession will also honor the late Jerome “Big Duck” Smith, the legendary New Orleans civil rights leader, Freedom Rider, community mentor and culture bearer who dedicated his life to justice, young people and preserving the traditions of his city.

3:00 PM: The Thaddeus Ford Band

3:45 PM: Second Line with Grand Marshal Michelle N. Gibson, the Big Easy Brass Band, Wild Apache Black Mardi Gras Indians, and the BuckShop Kidz
