“At once charming and twee” – Christopher Laws, CultureDarm

“Intriguing” – George Grella, New York Classical Review

Experience A Western, a powerful, immersive work by composer Michael Gordon inspired by the stark tensions of the classic film High Noon. Dawing from the drive of punk, the edge of free jazz, and the rigor of contemporary classical music, Verdigris Ensemble builds a relentless vocal sound-world shaped by rhythm, staging, and intensity.

A Western unfolds through a precise formation of voices, creating a live experience that feels physical, focused, and deeply human. Moments of raw force sit alongside subtle rhythmic invention, holding listeners inside the music’s momentum from beginning to end.

Performed by Verdigris Ensemble, Directed by Kevin Moriarty, and conducted by Sam Brukhman, A Western is presented March 14–16 at 7:30 pm in Hamon Hall at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
