Meet Latinidad Festival Dance Instructor Sal Urena of Alpha Midway Dance Studio

For Salvador Urena, dancing is just part of being Latino, a celebratory display of culture with family and friends.  

Sal, as he’s known in the community, is the owner and lead instructor at Alpha Midway Dance Studio, one of the featured performers at this year’s Latinidad Festival on October 3, part of the free festival series produced and hosted by the AT&T Performing Arts Center. 

As an instructor, Urena says he wants his dance students to learn two things: 1) the cultural roots of Latin dancing, like how his beloved Salsa is steeped in Cuban culture and 2) how dance has the power to give people a fun outlet for self-expression and socializing. 

At last year’s Latinidad Festival, he saw Venezuelans, Columbians, Mexicans, people of all Latin backgrounds, representing their culture with pride. This year, he’s looking forward to bringing that same level of enthusiasm and more to festival patrons. 

Latinidad Festival, celebrating of the color, diversity, and richness of Latin American arts, cuisine, dance, and more during Hispanic Heritage Month, will be held on October 3, 2026 in Strauss Square, from 6 to 10 p.m. Latinidad is part of the Center’s free, annual festival series. Learn more at attpac.org/latinidad.
