The AT&T Performing Arts Center and Dallas Theater Center Announce Exploratory Plans to Merge: What Does This Mean for Audiences?

At the end of July, two legacy arts organizations, the AT&T Performing Arts Center (the Center) and Dallas Theater Center (DTC), announced exploratory plans to combine organizations, a move, which according to the press release, is “designed to strengthen the future of the performing arts in Dallas while preserving the distinct artistic identities and missions of both institutions.” 

It’s no secret that the national state of the arts is undergoing profound systemic change. Leaders of cultural institutions have noticed shifting audience habits, including sometimes choosing streaming services and on-demand content over live performances and experiences. It’s partly the impetus behind this new collaborative approach—to provide audiences with more freedom and flexibility when choosing their entertainment.

As President and CEO Warren Tranquada or the Center recently stated in an article for Advocate Magazine, “I think what matters to the customer is whether it’s the type of show they want to see at the right place and at the right time. That’s really the power we can have from working together.” 

What can Patrons Expect? 

• Your tickets are still good! All currently scheduled shows and seasons will proceed as expected. 

• The opportunity for more personalized ticketing packages across more art forms and enhanced membership packages that make sense for individual customers. 

• More world-class artists and performances through Center Presents, Broadway at the Center, and the innovative Elevator Project. 

• Exceptional theater through Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company. 

• Dallas Theater Center will continue to produce A Christmas Carol at the Wyly Theatre.

When Will Patrons Begin Seeing Expanded Programming? 

Patrons will begin seeing expanded programming opportunities for the 2027-2028 season in Spring 2027.
