Arts Councils Amplify Cultural Relevance
As part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s mission to reach new and diverse audiences, we gather with groups of cultural advisors with a pulse on where and what kind of entertainment Dallasites want to see on the stage and in their community. The Community Advisory Councils have been amazing with advice and admonishments about organizations we should collaborate with to better connect with the variety of cultures that call Dallas home.
As a lifelong arts enthusiast with a background as an artist, arts administrator, and entertainment business leader, I am an unapologetic advocate for unity, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts, says Glyne A. Griffith II, Director of Audience Development and Sales.
Our councils comprise business professionals, artists, administrators, and community leaders. Together, they play a vital role in advancing the Center’s mission to serve as a vibrant cultural hub, authentically celebrating and elevating the rich mosaic of diverse cultures across D-FW. I am proud that the Center champions this work, and grateful to our phenomenal councils for their support!
Following the advice from members of the Black Community Advisory Council, the Center is creating stronger relationships with churches. As a result, the Concord Church’s Jubilee Praise Dance Ministry performed in the lobby of the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, effectively an opening act ahead of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater show, presented by TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND.

In addition to the Black Community Advisory Council, the Center works in collaboration with a South Asian Community Advisory Council and has plans to gather a Latino/a cohort later in the year. With cultural awareness and relevance at the table, the Center invites more audiences to participate in the joy of performing arts that speaks to them.
