CITY LEADERS ANNOUNCE LAW ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN AT CENTER
Dallas elected officials and other community leaders gathered at the Center in the Winspear Opera House Thursday to announce Operation Blue Shield, a community-centric campaign focused on supporting police and encouraging a community-law enforcement dialogue. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was joined by Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Police Association President Ron Pinkston, County Commissioner Elba Garcia, state Senator Royce West, Dallas City Councilmembers Tennell Atkins, Monica Alonzo, Philip Kingston and Lee Kleinman, and former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett.
Many other community leaders were present in addition to dozens of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, who released blue and gold balloons into the sky. Founded by Toni Brinker Pickens, Operation Blue Shield is “about citizens and law enforcement working together through open dialogue and neighborhood community-centric activities.”
A similar event was held later that day Southwest Center Mall in Southern Dallas.
