AT&T Performing Arts Center Launches Second Installment of Blues Series in the Tenth Street Historic District
The Center, in collaboration with Dallas-Fort Worth artivists and nonprofits, is bringing the Blues to this Dallas neighborhood that has close ties to famed guitarist, singer and songwriter T-Bone Walker.
(DALLAS) – After a successful first installment, the nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center presents Blues in the Bottom: A 10th Street Homage to T-Bone Walker, curated by Tufara Waller Muhammad. This second chapter of the community music series is a concert with The People’s Queen of Blues, Diunna Greenleaf on May 24, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Blues in the Bottom serves as a tribute to the cultural richness of the Tenth Street Historic District where T-Bone Walker once lived, keeping his musical legacy alive for future generations. Headliner, Diunna Greenleaf, known for her dynamic stage presence and deep-rooted storytelling, has captivated audiences worldwide—from Mississippi juke joints to European blues festivals. As a leading voice in contemporary blues, blending gospel, jazz, and traditional blues into a sound all her own she will round out this celebration of culture in the Tenth Street Historic District.
“The idea of establishing an ongoing blues festival as the final offering of my Urban Historical Reclamation & Recognition Project, created as a part of Nasher Public, came to me after learning from Tenth Street Historic District elders that T-Bone Walker lived in their community and how prevalent the Blues was in the neighborhood music venues,” said Vicki Meek, Creator of the Urban Historical Reclamation and Recognition Project. “Given the Center’s annual Brass and Jazz in the Park festival and their deep community partnerships in South Dallas, the organization is a natural partner to help bring this initiative to life.”
Blues in the Bottom is presented by ArtsBridge – South Dallas, a community arts program of the AT&T Performing Arts Center that is supported by BMO.
