AMON! The Ultimate Texan Makes Its Dallas Debut — and Crosses the Trinity at Last
Amon Carter is coming to Dallas.
For more than half a century, one fact of North Texas life was widely understood:
Amon G. Carter Sr. belonged firmly on the Fort Worth side of the Trinity River. Put another way, he was not especially fond of Dallas. Which makes the following announcement all the more remarkable:
The award-winning one-man play AMON! The Ultimate Texan will make its long-awaited Dallas debut with three performances only on June 27–28, 2026, at the Winspear Opera House’s Hamon Hall—bringing the larger-than-life Texan directly into rival territory.
Written by award-winning journalist Dave Lieber, directed by veteran theater leader Connie Sanchez, and starring acclaimed actor Kelvin Dilks, the production has been performed 74 times in a dozen cities, delighting audiences with the wit, stories, and outsized personality of one of Texas’ most colorful figures.
Now, Dallas audiences will finally experience Amon Carter up close.
“Dallas audiences are about to meet one of Texas’ most unforgettable characters—and I can’t wait to introduce him,” says playwright Dave Lieber.
Publisher, aviation champion, and a trailblazer in radio and television journalism, Carter devoted a lifetime to promoting Fort Worth — sometimes enthusiastically, sometimes loudly, and occasionally at Dallas’s expense.
Students of the long-running Fort Worth–Dallas competition may wish to mark their calendars.
Fortunately, time has softened the rivalry just enough to allow this historic cross-river appearance.
Whether Dallas audiences consider the event a cultural exchange, a friendly invasion, or a long-overdue visit remains to be seen.
But one fact is certain:
Amon Carter is crossing the Trinity.
Dallas, you’ve been warned.
