Join TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND’s Artistic and Executive Director Charles Santos for our last Santos Salon Series for the year before the show on December 13 at the Winspear Opera House lobby and Facebook Live, with choreographer and founder of HUNG Dance, Lai Hung-Chung.
A rising force in Taiwan’s contemporary dance scene, Lai brings a distinctive choreographic voice shaped by tradition, innovation, and emotional precision. Ahead of the company’s powerful performance of BIRDY on December 13, gain insight into the creative influences, themes, and movement language that have positioned HUNG Dance at the forefront of Taiwan’s new generation of dance makers.

Artists need to come together, support each other, and have these conversations so we can ensure that all voices are heard, now and in the future.
About the Speakers, Lai Hung-Chung, HUNG Dance
Lai Hung-Chung, a graduate of the Taiwan National University of Arts, founded HUNG Dance in 2017 and quickly made his mark as a bold new voice in Taiwanese choreography. His work blends Tai Chi principles with contemporary movement, creating a unique vocabulary rooted in the pursuit of freedom. Lai made history in 2016 by winning gold and three additional awards at the Taiwan Creative Dance Competition, and has since earned international acclaim, with works like See You and Birdy featured at top festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe and Festival OFF Avignon. Birdy sold out all 20 performances in Avignon in 2023. A champion of collaboration and innovation, Lai also founded the Stray Birds Dance Platform to support emerging talent and foster global exchange. His impact on Taiwan’s dance scene continues to grow through artistic risk-taking and international engagement.
Charles Santos has served as the Executive Director and Artistic Director of TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND since 2001. In his role, Charles oversees all aspects of TITAS including curation, programming, contract negotiation, and financial management. His skilled artistic vision has brought brilliant international artists to Dallas, accompanied by extensive community engagement to our community. Under his guidance, Santos has established TITAS and the City of Dallas as significant entity on the international cultural landscape. Prior to TITAS, he founded the Austin Festival of Dance and served as the Managing Director/Development Director for Eos Orchestra, Producer for Dancers Responding to AIDS-BC/EFA, and Managing Director/Producer of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
