Join TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND for a special two-night salon before both performances on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 at 6:30 PM at Moody Performance Hall and Facebook Live, for a moderated conversation with acclaimed choreographer and Ballet Preljocaj founder Angelin Preljocaj. TITAS’s Executive and Artistic Director Charles Santos will moderate the conversation on Friday, and a special guest moderator for Saturday’s conversation will be announced soon.

This intimate pre-performance salon talk takes you behind the scenes of Gravité to explore the creative inspiration, movement language, and artistic philosophy that drive Preljocaj’s celebrated works. This rare opportunity offers audiences a glimpse into the mind of one of today’s most visionary choreographers, just before the company takes the stage at Moody Performance Hall.

About the Speakers, Angelin Preljocaj, Ballet Preljocaj

Born in France, Angelin Preljocaj began his training in classical ballet before turning to contemporary dance, studying with Karin Waehner, Zena Rommett, Merce Cunningham, Viola Farber, and Quentin Rouillier. After dancing with Dominique Bagouet, he founded Ballet Preljocaj in 1984.

Since then, he has created over 60 works ranging from intimate solos to large-scale productions such as Romeo & Juliet, Snow White, and Swan Lake, alternating between narrative ballets and abstract creations like Empty Moves and Deleuze/Hendrix. His collaborations span music (Air, Laurent Garnier, Stockhausen), fashion (Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa), and visual art (Claude Lévêque, Subodh Gupta).
Preljocaj’s works appear in the repertoires of leading companies including the Paris Opera Ballet, New York City Ballet, and Staatsoper Berlin. His many honors include the Benois de la Danse, Bessie Award, and Globe de Cristal. He co-directed the feature film Polina, danser sa vie (2016) and joined the French Academy of Fine Arts in 2019. Today, Ballet Preljocaj’s 30 dancers perform worldwide, presenting an average of 120 performances each year.

Charles Santos has served as the Executive Director and Artistic Director of TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND since 2001. In his role, Charles oversees all aspects of TITAS including curation, programming, contract negotiation, and financial management. His skilled artistic vision has brought brilliant international artists to Dallas, accompanied by extensive community engagement to our community. Under his guidance, Santos has established TITAS and the City of Dallas as significant entity on the international cultural landscape. Prior to TITAS, he founded the Austin Festival of Dance and served as the Managing Director/Development Director for Eos Orchestra, Producer for Dancers Responding to AIDS-BC/EFA, and Managing Director/Producer of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
