100-year-old cradle of the Arts District, Booker T. High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, is home to 1,000 young creatives and the next gen of artists, changemakers and innovators.
Built in 1922 as Dallas’ first African American high school, BTW became the Arts Magnet High School in 1976, with a mission to teach a comprehensive curriculum in academics and the arts. Booker T.’s unique curriculum has made the school a center for excellence and launched a constellation of global superstars incl. Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, Miguel Cervantes, Edie Brickell and the late Daniel Jones and Shaun Martin.
The Advisory Board aims to close the opportunity gap for Booker T.’s scholar artists and cultural game-changers ensuring every student reaches their highest and best potential.
