Thousands of students attend Resident Company matinees
Earlier this month, thousands of students from across North Texas descended on the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre for student matinee performances. Texas Ballet Theater performed Peter and the Wolf for more than 3,000 third graders.
Meanwhile, junior high and high school students enjoyed Dallas Theater Center’s A Christmas Carol.
Students who visited the Winspear were particularly thrilled, squealing with delight as the Moody Chandelier was raised before the performance. Some even overcame their fear of heights as they were seated in the upper tiers of McDermott Performance Hall. And volunteers were never short on high-fives, friendly waves, and bright smiles as students ushered into and out of the performances.
“So many of these students have never had an opportunity to see a live performance, so it’s a real treat to welcome them to the Center,” said Chris Heinbaugh, the Center’s Chief Advocacy Officer. “Through our resident company partnerships, we’re able to provide these world-class spaces where students have a chance to experience the excitement of the arts firsthand. We’re grateful for our resident companies, our staff, and especially our volunteers for helping make this special event a reality.”
Both Texas Ballet Theater and Dallas Theater Center are Resident Companies of the Center. Staff and volunteers were on hand to welcome dozens of school buses that brought students to the heart of the Dallas Arts District, braving cold and rainy conditions to ensure a smooth operation.
More information on the Center’s resident companies can be found on the AT&T Performing Arts Center website.
