Showing our gratitude for your unending support
Our 15th Anniversary was marked by an incredible slate of free community concerts, elevated signature performances, and our 2024 Bravo! Gala. Below are a few event highlights. The Center also published a 15th Anniversary report highlighting the organization’s history, work, and impact since its opening in October 2009.
Mickey Guyton
The Center hosted two outdoor concerts in Annette Strauss Square as part of our 15th Anniversary Community Concert Series and was proud to welcome Mickey Guyton on October 4. An Arlington native, Guyton is the first-ever Black female solo artist to earn a GRAMMY nomination in a country category, Best Country Solo Performance. The Dallas skyline provided a picturesque backdrop for her return to North Texas, with fans singing, dancing, and interacting with Guyton during this intimate performance.
Latinidad
Vibrant colors and festive music filled Strauss Square and Sammons Park for our third annual Latinidad festival in October. Food vendors fed the masses, local cultural groups showed pride in their heritage during the Representa Foundation Parade, and artisinal vendors filled Strauss Square with cultural wares and crafts.
Featured performers included Ceci Ceci, aerial artist Cynthia Platero, Alegre Ballet Folklorico, Los Juanos, and Mariachi Rosas Divinas.
Brass and Jazz in the Park
Hundreds gathered at Mattie Nash-Myrtle Davis Park in West Dallas for this year’s Brass & Jazz in the Park. Featured student performances included the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy Big Band and Jazz Ensemble, Jesús Moroles Expressive Arts Vanguard Dancers, Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts Jazz Ensemble and Dancers, and others.
Adarian Roberts & The Future Is Now Band performed rousing tunes, and the evening was capped with a traditional Second Line led by Michelle N. Gibson, Grand Marshal of the New Orleans Original Buckshop, and the New Orleans-based Next Generation Brass Band with the Wild Apache Black Mardi Gras Indians.
Bravo! Gala
This year’s Bravo! Gala was one for the books. More than 300 attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception, seated dinner on Ted and Shannon Skokos stage, and a curated slate of lively of performances from Center Resident companies and Dallas natives Cedric Neal and Cherish Love Robinson.
