Mana Wahine is above all a rich fusion of choreography, music, tikanga Maori (the Maori way)” – Theaterview

TITAS welcomes the debut of this stunning company from New Zealand. Okareka’s Mana Wahine (Strong Women) bursts upon the stage in a mutli-media collage of captivating imagery and dance. Inspired by the historic story of a young Maori heroine, as well as women’s stories from the dancers’ families, powerhouse movement is amplified by bold projections, chant, original soundscape, traditional implements and historical motifs drawn from Maori (indigenous) culture and the impact of history.

Mona Wahine is an awe-inspiring 70 minutes, multi-media performance that celebrates the essence of life’s journeys and creates a vision of strength that empowers women around the world.

Nothing replaces that shared visceral connection we get from a live performance. That phenomenal moment of surprise and awe is what makes the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND season so special. Diverse, global, surprising and entertaining, all describe the magic of TITAS. Nothing Replaces the Live Experience.
