Helena Munktell, Bränningar, op. 19 (Breaking Waves) (1895)

Description: This orchestral work captures the adventurous spirit of the sea, with musical depictions of breaking waves and the power of nature. Munktell was one of the first Swedish women to gain recognition as a composer.

Description: This is a new commission for the NTSO, promising fresh and exciting musical landscapes. As a contemporary piece, it will likely explore innovative sounds and themes. We will also feature the artwork of Mr. Pullman.

Description:  This work stands out for its use of Ukrainian folk melodies, earning its nickname from a contemporary critic. Though not as famous as his later symphonies, the Second Symphony displays Tchaikovsky’s early mastery of orchestration and melody, foreshadowing the rich emotional depth of his later works.
